MLB World Series Picks 2009

Before the Phillies beat the Yankees in Game 1 Wednesday night, Sports of Boston’s best baseball minds submitted their picks. You know I’m telling the truth, as nearly everyone has the Yankees winning their 27th World Series in franchise history. Given the Yankees’ Game 1 loss with CC Sabathia on the mound, that prediction may have taken a hit. Hey, at least none of us said the Yankees would win in four games.

Even though the Red Sox aren’t here, two former prominent Sox players are: Pedro Martinez, going in Game 2 for the Phillies, and Johnny Damon, lurking out in left field each night for the Yankees. So, the series has some allure, and can’t be any worse than last year’s Philles-Rays five-game epic.

World Series Rules:

  • Each correct series winner is worth two points.
  • Correctly choosing how long each series will last is worth one point.
  • Correctly choosing the World Series MVP is worth one point.
  • Making any incorrect pick is worth zero points.
  • Getting all three picks correct will earn the player an extra four points.
  • Players also had to provide a tiebreaker. In this case, we had to give the final game’s final score. The total runs scored in the final game is the first tiebreaker, the run total for the winner in that game is the second tiebreaker, the run total for the loser in that game is the third tiebreaker, and the final tiebreaker is fighting to the death. Hopefully, it doesn’t get to that.

And now, without further ado, here are the World Series picks:

World Series:

NYY/PHI G# MVP Final Game Score* Total Points
Adam Yankees 5 Alex Rodriguez 6-2 11
