College Football Top 10: 2009 Week 12

Jeremiah Masoli and Oregon is back in the poll after a win in Arizona set up this weekend's Civil War for the Pac-10 Championship and Rose Bowl berth.

Another pretty static week in the SoB poll with just one new team in, Oregon, at the expense of LSU. Oregon needed double overtime to beat Arizona, but the win sets up this weekend’s ‘Civil War’ with Oregon State as a de facto Pac-10 Championship Game. LSU almost completed a comeback win against Mississippi, but bungled time management and their third loss drops them from the poll. Florida remains at the top as the top seven spots remained unchanged, but the six of us all had the same ten teams comprising our ballots.

Pollsters are SoB’s Andrew, Brian, Erikk, KC, Mike, and MikeBBonner and comments were gathered with the votes. The ballots are available.

SoB’s Top 10 Poll

Rank Team Points Last Week Comment
1 Florida (4) 57 1 Mike says, ‘Florida State should not even be on the same field as Florida, but a loss now eliminates them from National Championship contention.’
2 Alabama (1) 54 2 Erikk says, ‘Alabama controls their own BCS destiny. If they trip up against Alabama this weekend, it won’t matter if they can beat Florida in the SEC Championship.’
3 Texas (1) 51 3 KC says, ‘See you in the BCS Title Game!’
4 TCU 42 4 Erikk says, ‘TCU is the best team in the country that hails from a mid-major conference. With their best start in 71 years, they’ll certainly be playing in January.’
5 Cincinnati 34 6 Mike says, ‘Bearcats cannot look past Illinois with Pittsburgh looming, likely for the Big East Title.’
6 Boise State 28 5 KC says, ‘Get a better schedule next year.’
7 Georgia Tech 23 7 Mike says, ‘Early loss makes for big what if scenario.’
8 (tie) Oregon 15 Erikk says, ‘It took two overtimes, but the Ducks finally won against Arizona. A win against Oregon State this Sunday guarantees a Rose Bowl matchup against Ohio State.’
8 (tie) Pittsburgh 15 9 Mike says, ‘With Notre Dame out of the Gator Bowl picture, Big East runner up has a safety net.’
10 Ohio State 11 10 KC says, ‘Buckeyes will be in the Top 5 next year.’

Dropped from rankings: LSU 8
