Eagles Outlast Terrapins to Wrap Up Eight Win Season

Colin Larmond, Jr. led the Eagles past Maryland with a 66 yard touchdown reception.

Boston College finished up an eight win regular season by beating Maryland in their regular season finale. The Eagles finished second in the Atlantic Division with a 5-3 conference record while dropping Maryland to 1-7 in league play and 2-10 overall. The Eagles await a bowl invitation, likely the Emerald Bowl, which will complete their season. The Eagles won 19-17 after Maryland closed the gap with a late touchdown.

Eagles Get a Couple Big Plays and Ride Steve Aponavicius’ Leg

Dave Shinskie (14-23, 227 yards, 1 TD) hit Colin Larmond, Jr. (3 rec., 105 yards, 1 TD) on a 66 yard catch and run for a touchdown to take a 7-3 lead in the first quarter. Aside from that big play, the Eagles inched down the field with a steady passing attack and another workmanlike effort from Montel Harris (41 rush, 142 yards, 1 rec., 30 yards). With BC unable to punch it in, Steve Aponavicius converted four of five field goal attempts, the miss being his first of the season (including no missed PATs), fewest among FBS kickers.

Maryland had a number of good yardage plays, but BC’s defense was able to stifle the Terps scoring opportunities. Overall, the Terrapins lack of consistency on offense had them stall on many drives. They only averaged 6.8 yards per pass play and 2.2 when rushing. The Eagles big difference between this week and the terrible loss to UNC last weekend was turnovers. While the Eagles and Tar Heels combined for 10 last weekend, neither team turned the ball over this weekend.
