NFL Power Rankings: Make Your Super Bowl Pick

NFL Playoffs (courtesy of bleacherreport.com)

All the hard work from the regular season has come down to this: the playoffs. Four teams will get a rest, while eight others will play do-or-die games in the Wild Card weekend. Right now, Sports of Boston’s top football minds have ranked the remaining 12 teams and who they will see in the Super Bowl. Do you agree? Will our writers be more like Nostradamus? Or, will there be some team out there spoiling our predictions?

Teddy Byrne:

1. San Diego Chargers
2. New Orleans Saints
3. Indianapolis Colts
4. Minnesota Vikings
5. Dallas Cowboys
6. New York Jets
7. Philadelphia Eagles
8. New England Patriots
9. Green Bay Packers
10. Baltimore Ravens
11. Cincinnati Bengals
12. Arizona Cardinals

Super Bowl Winner: Minnesota Vikings

This team has everything you need to win a Super Bowl: a strong running game, a quarterback who handles big games, and a defense that can shut an opponent down. They get a week break, which might be what Brett Favre needs. Should they make the big game, expect the Vikings to finally win their first Super Bowl.

Super Bowl Loser: San Diego Chargers

They have the same formula as the Vikings, but who knows how Philip Rivers will handle himself in a Super Bowl. Still, they are the best team in the AFC and even if they have to go to Indianapolis, they should roll through the Colts. The only obstacle they could face? The Jets. Seriously. New York could be the only thorn in Chargers side.

KC Downey:

1. San Diego Chargers
2. Indianapolis Colts
3. Minnesota Vikings
4. New Orleans Saints
5. Green Bay Packers
6. Dallas Cowboys
7. Philadelphia Eagles
8. Arizona Cardinals
9. New England Patriots
10. Cincinnati Bengals
11. Baltimore Ravens
12. New York Jets

Super Bowl Winner: Colts

Bill Polian and the Colts will be the first team that wins the Super Bowl, but angers more of their fans in the process for throwing away the perfect season.

Super Bowl Loser: Vikings

The only thing worse than Peyton Manning winning the Super Bowl is watching that ego-maniac Brett Favre winning another Super Bowl. He’d be the first player to ever win it all as a quarterback AND head coach (Favre took over for Brad Childress earlier this season, but it just was unannounced).

George Fitopoulos:

1. San Diego Chargers
2. Indianapolis Colts
3. Minnesota Vikings
4. New Orleans Saints
5. Green Bay Packers
6. Dallas Cowboys
7. New England Patriots
8. Philadelphia Eagles
9. Cincinnati Bengals
10. Baltimore Ravens
11. Arizona Cardinals
12. New York Jets

Super Bowl Winner: Green Bay Packers

I think the Packers have the easiest road to the NFC Championnship if Dallas can take care of business at home in the first round. The Packers get the easiest first-round opponent with a banged up Cardinals team and then would go on to face the Saints, who are behind the Vikings in my power rankings. The Packers’ defense has been great as of late and their offense is the only foursome to have a 4,000-yard passer, 1,200-yard runner, and two 1,000-yard receivers in two consecutive seasons.

Super Bowl Lose: San Diego Chargers

I can’t believe I’m saying it, but I think that the Chargers are finally going to put together a Super Bowl run. It’s more of a testament to how depleted the AFC is this year rather to how good the Chargers are, albeit very good. San Diego will most likely draw the New England Patriots in the second round of the playoffs, as long as the Pats can beat the Ravens at home. I like the Chargers to beat the Patriots in San Diego and then I have very little faith that the Colts will have enough to win two playoff games this year. Therefore, by default the Chargers will represent the AFC in the Super Bowl, but fall short as they run into a very good Packers team.

Erikk Hokenson:

1. San Diego Chargers
2. Minnesota Vikings
3. Dallas Cowboys
4. Indianapolis Colts
5. Cincinnati Bengals
6. New Orleans Saints
7. New England Patriots
8. Green Bay Packers
9. Baltimore Ravens
10. New York Jets
11. Arizona Cardinals
12. Philadelphia Eagles

Super Bowl Winner: San Diego Chargers

While the playoffs have never been kind to the Chargers, they’re the hottest team in the NFL right now, having peeled off 11 straight victories. This year is their year.

Super Bowl Loser: Dallas Cowboys

After their victory in New Orleans to end the Saints’ undefeated season, the Cowboys have outscored their two opponents 41-0. I wouldn’t want to face this team in the playoffs, but they won’t be able to win it all.

Andrew Kipp:

1. New Orleans Saints
2. Indianapolis Colts
3. Minnesota Vikings
4. San Diego Chargers
5. Dallas Cowboys
6. Green Bay Packers
7. Philadelphia Eagles
8. New England Patriots
9. Arizona Cardinals
10. Baltimore Ravens
11. Cincinnati Bengals
12. New York Jets

Super Bowl Winner: Saints

Super Bowl Loser: Chargers

Brian Kintz:

3. Indianapolis Colts
4. Minnesota Vikings
5. New England Patriots
6. Green Bay Packers
7. Arizona Cardinals
8. Dallas Cowboys
9. Philadelphia Eagles
10. Cincinnati Bengals
11. Baltimore Ravens
12. New York Jets

Super Bowl Winner: San Diego

Super Bowl Loser: New Orleans

John Scullane:

1. San Diego Chargers
2. Indianapolis Colts
3. New Orleans Saints
4. Dallas Cowboys
5. Green Bay Packers
6. Minnesota Vikings
7. Philadelphia Eagles
8. Arizona Cardinals
9. New York Jets
10. New England Patriots
11. Baltimore Ravens
12. Cincinnati Bengals

Super Bowl Winner: San Diego Chargers

After a dull start, the Chargers have won 11 straight to finish a very respectable 13-3. With the way they’ve been winning, nobody wants to face them right now.

Super Bowl Loser: New Orleans Saints

Sure they’ve lost three straight after starting 13-0, but with Brees and co. not getting the most game time, the Saints will be underestimated until the Chargers put them back in their place.
