2010 NHL Playoffs Expert Picks: Round 1

Are Crosby and Ovechkin on an inevitable collision course of epic scoring proportions? (x929.ca)

There’s been plenty of hype about the playoffs this year, which I say as if it’s a revelation. The Bruins rebounded quite nicely to pick up their best possible match-up in the 1st round, and four of our six experts have picked them to win, with five of us (including those four who think the Bruins will win) guessing that the series will go a full seven games.

Four of the eight series were selected by our experts to produce unanimous winners, and surprisingly, it’s not all #1 and #2 teams that have been chosen; Pittsburgh has been named to take down Ottawa in six games, though one of us did say they would do so in five. The Capitals by far have the easiest series, with four of us thinking of a sweep and the other two thinking five games.

As far as upsets go, the Red Wings are going to beat the Coyotes according to five of us, and the Bruins will win according to four, though the Black and Gold (according to most of us) are going to have a protracted battle either way.

Experts will get two points for correctly guessing a series winner, and one point for correctly guessing how many games each series will last. We’ll see who can get some major momentum after the first series are all completed.
