Kevin Millar to Join NESN

Cowboy Up NESN, you’ve just hired an Idiot.

Kevin Millar is reportedly joining the NESN team and is scheduled to make his network debut on Thursday, May 27, for the pregame show of the Red Sox-Royals game. Millar will join host Tom Caron and Red Sox Hall of Famer Jim Rice on the show.

During his time with the Red Sox, Millar quickly became a fan favorite with his laid back attitude and his ability to lighten even the most stressful of situations. A pivotal piece of the 2004 Champion Red Sox on the field, an argument can be made that Millar was even more important off the field as one of the leaders of “The Idiots.” Millar and the Red Sox used their youthful camaraderie and pure love of the game to drive them to their historic World Series victory, ending the franchise’s 86-year drought.

For those who were a little weary of the hiring, Joel Feld, NESN’s executive vice president of programming and executive producer, explained the Millar addition in perfection, in a press release.

“Kevin is a fan favorite and he brings first-hand knowledge of the game. He has never been shy about sharing his opinions and our fans will enjoy the added dimension he will bring to our Red Sox programming.”

Welcoming Millar to the network are baseball legends, Rice, Dennis Eckersley, and Peter Gammons.

Millar signed with the independent St. Paul Saints at the beginning of the month and has played under a contract arrangement that allows him to leave the team to fulfill his broadcasting duties. He has played six games for the Saints this season, with five hits in 24 at-bats.
