Papelbon Family Emergency; Closer on Bereavement List

Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon has been placed on the bereavement list due to an undisclosed family emergency. Paps now has to remain away from the team for three days.

“When you get placed on that (list), it’s serious,” Terry Francona said. “He has our full support.”

In the meantime, Daniel Bard will likely fill in at closer. Boof Bonser was called up in Papelbon’s place for the time being, as the righty has finally finished his rehab assignment.
