
While it appeared that a Cliff Lee-to-the-Yankees trade was imminent, the Rangers swooped in at the 11th hour and nabbed the lefty ace, who immediately legitimizes the Rangers as they push for their first playoff series win in franchise history.

Traditionally the major problem in Texas, pitching now is the club’s biggest strength, led by Lee at the front end of the rotation and Neftali Feliz at the back end of the bullpen. Gone are the days of Rick Helling, Chan Ho Park, Todd Stottlemyre, Aaron Sele, and Kevin Millwood (granted, all pitchers w…and in are the days of Cliff Lee, Colby Lewis, C.J. Wilson, and Rich Harden. Not half bad!
Of course, the best news of the night is that Lee is headed to Texas, and NOT New York. Rumors had the Yankees on the brink of acquiring Lee and clinching the AL East, but those were just that — rumors. It’s unclear whether the Rangers offered more than the Yankees, or that Texas was willing to pull the trigger first.
