The NFL announced the 2011 Pro Bowl rosters Tuesday, and the Patriots lead the way for the AFC with six selections (the Falcons lead the NFC with seven). Starting for the Patriots will be quarterback Tom Brady, guard Logan Mankins and interior lineman Vince Wilfork. Patriot backups will be inside/middle linebacker Jerod Mayo, cornerback Devin McCourty and free safety Brandon Meriweather.

Their respective counterparts will be Michael Vick (Eagles), Chris Snee (Giants), Jay Ratliff (Cowboys), Brian Urlacher (Bears), DeAngelo Hall (Redskins) and Antrel Rolle (Giants). Of course, all of this could go out the window if (or when) the Patriots make the Super Bowl. Vick could miss out with a quad bruise. Overall, it’s a tough rule that will probably essentially make the current Pro Bowl rosters a waste of paper.

Of course, we’re all hoping that no Patriots play in the Pro Bowl, since they would play in Arlington instead of Honolulu. But if they do make it to Hawaii, you can bet the AFC will roll. Six Patriots is tied four a fourth franchise best. Brady has been chosen six times, Mankins and Wilfork three, Meriweather two, and Mayo and McCourty once.
