Let’s throw another elite 3B on the injury pile. The Washington Nationals have placed Ryan Zimmerman on the 15-day DL with an abdominal strain. Zimmerman suffered the injury sliding into second base in Saturday’s game against the Mets. He’s expected to miss at least three weeks, but unfortunately, it could be even longer than that. He was hitting .357 with a home run and four RBI in eight games this season.
With Zim’ out, Alex Cora started Sunday’s finale against New York and went 0-2 before being replaced by Jerry Hairston Jr. I don’t advise picking those two up in hopes of replacing Zimmerman’s production. Instead, guys like Scott Rolen (.265/2 HR/ 10 RBI) and Alex Gordon (.357/1 HR/ 5 RBI) should still be available in many leagues.
