The Red Sox traded for lefthanded reliever Franklin Morales on Thursday night. In return, they will send cash or a player to be named later, according to several reports.

The Rockies were out of options for the 25-year-old Morales, and did not want to release him without getting anything in return as they move to reconstruct their bullpen. Morales was 0-1 this year with a 3.86 ERA in 14 games.

MLB Trade Rumors describes Morales as a hard throwing lefty, as evidenced by his 94.4-mph average fastball last season.

In a separate move, the Red Sox designated Hideki Okajima for assignment. Okajima, who was 1-0 with a 4.32 ERA in 8.1 innings this year, warmed up during Thursday’s game, but did not make it in.
