Free Agent LB Channing Crowder to the Patriots?

Crowder a Patriot?

According to ESPN’s John Clayton, free agent linebacker Channing Crowder was given a physical by the Patriots on Thursday.

Crowder, a third round pick by the Dolphins in 2005, has spent his entire career playing in the AFC east with Miami. He started 74 games for the Dolphins, recording 343 career tackles.

Crowder would bring a certain ‘mean streak’ with him from Miami. He is like current Patriot safety  Brandon Meriweather in that regard. He gets by based on his athleticism and motor, rather than football IQ, and wouldn’t be the prototypical linebacker we are used to seeing in a Patriots uniform.

Matt Light Incident

In November of 2008, Channing Crowder and Patriots left tackle Matt Light were both ejected and fined $15,000 by the NFL after an on-field altercation that involved a lot of pushing and shoving. We later found out that it was Channing Crowder who started the altercation. And this is all par for the course with Crowder. He can be a bad-character guy, and on a team that just signed Albert Haynesworth, I wouldn’t love the signing for that reason.
