Vollmer, Price, Cunningham Inactive for Patriots

The New England Patriots have announced that OL Sebastian Vollmer (back), DE/LB Jermaine Cunningham (groin), WR Taylor Price (hamstring), LB Jeff Tarpinian (knee) and OL Ryan Wendell (calf) have all been downgraded to out for Monday night’s season opening against the Dolphins.

The Patriots also listed LB Brandon Spikes, QB Ryan Mallet and RB Shane Vereen as inactive, while signing OT Thomas Welch off the practice squad. Tarpinian was released to clear the spot for Welch.

Vollmer’s absence means that rookie OT Nate Solder should get the start on the right side in his first career game.

The losses of Cunningham, Price and Tarpinian for tonight should not play a big role, as the Patriots are deep at both defensive line, wide receiver and linebacker.

Inactives

  • Brandon Spikes
  • Sebastian Vollmer
  • Jermaine Cunningham
  • Taylor Price
  • Ryan Mallet
  • Shane Vereen
  • Ryan Wendell
  • Jeff Tarpinian (released)
