Brad Marchand’s Hat Trick Boosts Bruins to 8-0 Win Over Panthers

Since starting the season 3-7, the Bruins can’t really find a way to lose. They entered Friday night’s clash with the Panthers as winners of 19 of their last 22 games, including one memorable blemish: a 2-0 loss to Florida back on Dec. 8.

You have to imagine that despite the recent success, the Bruins must have had revenge, and not the upcoming holiday break, on their minds heading into Friday night’s game. And they didn’t disappoint.

The Bruins scored four first-period goals, and added four more over the final two periods to defeat the Panthers 8-0. Tuukka Rask finished with 30 saves to get the shutout, but the story was the off-the-charts offensive explosion.

Scoring Summary

1st Period

  • 5:56 – Brad Marchard got it all started with a shorthanded goal
  • 13:40 – Milan Lucic, fresh off his one-game suspension, scores on the power play
  • 18:31 – Benoit Pouliot scores an absolutely beautiful goal during a 4-on-4
  • 19:02 – Dennis Seidenberg gets in on the action, scoring his 1st goal of the year

2nd Period

  • Gregory Campbell gets his third goal of the year
  • Patrice Bergeron becomes the sixth different Bruin to tally a goal

3rd Period

  • 1:53 – Marchand scores his second goal
  • 10:53 – Marchand completes his first career hat trick
Jose Theodore allowed the first four goals on just 14 shots after shutting down the B’s earlier in the month. Scott Clemmensen allowed the other four over the next two periods in relief.

Looking Ahead

The Bruins get the holiday break off before playing Wednesday night against the Coyotes.

Merry Christmas everyone!
