Boston Celtics Take Jared Sullinger at 21, Fab Melo at 22 at NBA Draft

Fab Melo and Jared Sullinger are the newest Celtics.

The Celtics drafted Big Ten star Jared Sullinger from Ohio State University with the 21st pick in the NBA draft.

Sullinger averaged 17 points and 9 rebounds and led the Buckeyes to the Final Four in the NCAA tournament this March.

With the following pick the Celtics took Fab Melo who played center last season for the Syracuse Orange. Melo sparked controversy when he was suspended for the NCAA tournament because of academic troubles.

Melo is a big time shot blocker and a decent rebounder with a large frame that fills the paint. Melo’s off court troubles are certainly concerning, but you have to think Kevin Garnett may be coming back to kick him into shape.

If one thing is obvious about the Celtics’ draft strategy, they are addressing one of their biggest needs, rebounding. The Celtics were dead last in the NBA in rebounding last season.
