John Lackey Seen Double-Fisting Bud Light Beers in Red Sox Road Clubhouse

Red Sox pitcher John Lackey, who has missed the entire season due to recovery from Tommy John surgery, is apparently quite thirsty. Hey, a man’s got to drink right?

Well, this man, who was at the center of the team’s “chicken and beer” controversy during last September’s historic collapse, apparently prefers Bud Light (two of them at a time, actually) in the Red Sox clubhouse, according to CSNNE.com’s Joe Haggerty.

When hired, Bobby Valentine banned the consumption of alcohol in the Red Sox clubhouse at Fenway and on flights home to Boston. So, when Lackey was double-fisting the Bud Lights on the road in Cleveland, he was not breaking team rules.

Valentine defended Lackey Friday, admitting that he stashes beer in his office while on the road.

“That’s beer right there,” said Valentine to a group of reporters with a smile on his face. “If you came in here [last night], you would have seen a pretty heaping pile of empty bottles by the time I left. And I dare say there were a whole bunch of games this year at home that I would have liked to have the ability to make a big pile.”

What do you think? Is this even a big deal?
