According to several reports, the Red Sox have hired John Farrell to be their next manager. As compensation, the Red Sox traded infielder Mike Aviles to the Blue Jays, who now have to look for a new manager.
Farrell was the Red Sox pitching coach from 2007-2010 before taking the manager job in Toronto. While there, he went 154-170 over two seasons.
The Red Sox spent the week interviewing Brad Ausmus, Tim Wallach and other potential managers before deciding to target Farrell again.
