2012 MLB Playoffs Expert Picks: World Series

Detroit is amped for the World Series, but with San Francisco so good in elimination games, it won't be easy for anyone involved. (Tim Fuller / US Presswire)

The World Series is finally here. It’s the sweeping Tigers and Game 7 Giants. The Tigers are well-rested after sweeping perennial contender New York, and that’s let them set up Verlander to start Game 1, and at least two games overall in a lengthy series. That’s set them up as a favorite in the series, with an 80% selection rate among our panel. As to how many games it will take, that’s much more up in the air. While nobody picked a sweep, it’s open as to what Detroit’s rest and San Francisco’s elimination game heroics will do to the World Series.

In addition to the already included scoring categories of winner, series length and MVP, we’re also introducing a new scoring category just for the world series; points go to whoever can guess for how many home runs both teams will combine in the final game of the series, whichever game that may be. And in addition to that, all point values are doubled!!!. That means guessing the winner of the series is worth four points, while guessing the series length, MVP and HR Total are worth two points each.

In the even two panelists finish tied, we’re also pooling together the hits and at-bats of LCS MVPs Delmon Young and Marco Scutaro to guess their combined average. Whoever guesses closest above or below gets the nod.

So now that the red tape is out of the way, the complete World Series pick sets can be found below. Enjoy the World Series, and be sure to come back once an MLB champion is determined for the complete Pick ‘Em results.
