Apparently Red Sox fans weren’t the only ones unimpressed with a roster including the likes of Mauro Gomez, Scott Podsednik, and Daniel Nava among others. According to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times, eight of Boston’s nine games at Tampa next season have been re-categorized from Diamond and Platinum status to a lower classification.
It should also be noted that despite being a perennial contender the past several years, the Rays have never moved above the “irrelevant category” in anyone’s classifications.
It’s hardly a surprise. The combination of a poor 2012 showing for Boston and Toronto’s recent acquisitions
(of aging, injury prone players whose contracts will financially cripple the Blue Jays for a majority of the next decade) have kept the Red Sox as the clear bottom-dweller of the AL East. I guess the big David Ross signing wasn’t enough to help them prove otherwise.
If any Red Sox fans feel insulted, rest assured that the Tropicana Dome will be just as empty as it was last year…and the year before…and you get the picture.
