Robin Yount Goes “Dick Cheney” on Former Red Sox Third Base Coach Dale Sveum

Apparently Robin Yount, the former outstanding shortstop and center fielder for the Milwaukee Brewers, still holds a grudge against Dale Sveum for working for the NL Central rival Chicago Cubs.

According to ESPN, the Hall of Famer pulled a “Dick Cheney” and accidentally shot Chicago Cubs manager (and former Brewers manager) Dale Sveum while the two were hunting quail in Arizona during the offseason.

The good news is that Sveum is all right. And that Yount still brought down the bird.

Sveum, the former third base coach for the Red Sox, was hit with shrapnel in the ear and the back from the spray pattern of Yount’s six-shot. According to the article, there was a significant amount of blood, but Sveum was unfazed.

Sveum was also general manager Ben Cherington’s leading managerial candidate for the Red Sox last season before John Henry and Larry Lucchino stepped in to nominate Bobby Valentine for the position, allowing Theo Epstein to squire Sveum away to Chicago. In that sense, Sveum was already quite familiar with the feeling of getting shot (or at least stabbed) in the back after Red Sox ownership denied him the opportunity in favor of a deranged mental patient.
