Dear Friends and Families,
The holidays are upon us once more. As always, it was a fascinating year as our Boston sports family has moments of cheer, celebration and the normal tribulations that any family faces in the due course of the month to month activities.
We had a special guest visit us from Bristol, Connecticut. He had a great smile, invented the wrap and was a wonderful ballroom dancer. He wasn’t a big fan of Youk’s commitment, teased a rookie, sparred with media and mismanaged a $170,000,000 team. He has since left on his bike dancing his way out of our fair city but certainly wasn’t boring. Glad to say that the team’s travails didn’t keep people in pink hats from visiting his yard in numbers that exceeded 3,000,000, putting money into the pocket of the three wise men.
While the Red Sox nine struggled, the Bruins with the spoked B and right-winged masked defender weren’t allowed to enter their playground. The “man” locked the doors, causing the players to pack their skates and travel through Europe like characters in a Hans Christian Anderson book skating on the frozen ponds of the Eastern Bloc.
Sadly while the Black and Gold remained hung by the chimney with care, the boys in green have been allowed to play. And like all of us, they keep getting older. Our ability, like their’s, to rebound from a long day or stressful endeavor becomes more difficult as father time continues to erode skills and steps to slow causing the men in shamrock shirts who still bang their chest to allow opponents to get to the hoop and score more points while they live off past glories.
Fortunaly, in Foxboro, right down the road from home, our friend in the hoodie and his buddy with 12 on his back and magic in his right arm continue to bring us joy at the holiday time. The owner of their house and family business continue to sit in their high chairs while providing us with a quality product while all around them their followers drink egg nog and celebrate Christmas cheer.
To help ring in the holiday season, we have pesky elves-on-the-shelf like Rondo, Woodhead, Welker and Pedroia. We smile at friendly snowmen like Vince Wilfork, Shawn Thornton and Vollmer. While others who are sometimes naughty and sometimes nice like Victorino, Napoli and Dempster have realized Santa’s big heart in the form of $13mm increments.
Win or lose, every year we are still like oversized kids looking forward to presents under the tree or Menorah. Some like Middlebrooks and Chandler Jones bring us smiles while other boxes are filled with just another oft hurt Drew no different than oversized mittens.
So here we are, another year has come and gone. Thankfully we have Patriot excellence to warm our hearts while are other teams are on pace to bring no joy. Like a dreidel that doesn’t spin or a misfit toy, Boston sports continues to raise our pulse for the good and bad. But nonetheless, we are truly blessed to cheer hard working Patriots, overpaid Red Sox, aging Celtics and Bruins who can’t get their skate guards off.
To all the readers – Merry Christmas / Happy Hunukkah
