Celtics Fall to the Red Hot Clippers, 106-77

(sports.yahoo.com)

The Boston Celtics continued their recent struggles last night as they fell to the 23-6 Los Angeles Clippers, 106-77, at the Staples Center. From the start of the game, the Clippers dominated the Celtics in all aspects of the game. Led by a balanced scoring attack from Blake Griffin (16), Caron Butler (14), Jamal Crawford (17), and Matt Barnes game high twenty-one points, the Clippers continued to put on what even Magic Johnson calls “Showtime”.

The Celtics got off to a terrible start falling behind 30-20 in the first quarter and were never able to recover. Kevin Garnett led the Celtics with sixteen points and Paul Pierce and Courtney Lee both added twelve. Rajon Rondo and Jason Terry also pitched in a solid ten points each.

Turnover problems also continued for the Celtics as they surrendered eighteen turnovers while the Clippers only had eight. Rondo’s off night of ten points and six assists was made even more evident by the four turnovers he allowed. Rondo’s turnovers per game is up to 3.7, a number that is one full turnover higher than his career average of 2.7.

Up next for the Celtics is a Saturday night matchup with the streaking Golden State Warriors who, fortunately for the Celtics, play tonight against the Philadelphia 76ers. A win Tomorrow night against the Warriors would be huge for the 14-14 Celtics due to the fact that they will play the much maligned Sacramento Kings on Sunday, therefore giving them an opportunity for back to back wins heading into their tough game against Memphis on January 2nd.
