Bobby Valentine to Host NBC Sports Radio Show

Valentine has landed a job as a sports radio host, which will begin in April.

Former Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine will continue to be heard from over the course of the 2013 baseball season–as a radio show host as part of NBC’s Sports Radio lineup. Beginning in April around the start of the baseball season, the talkative Valentine will be heard daily, with his view being presented regularly as in his time with ESPN before joining Boston for a disastrous 2012 campaign.

It will be interesting to hear Valentine’s opinion of the Red Sox moving forward, after an extremely negative experience as manager of the team in what seems to be the perspective of players, ownership, and Valentine himself.

Valentine has had a love-hate relationship with the media in the last few years, largely because of the time he spent as an analyst for ESPN, and yet his distaste for the Boston media was very clear last year. That included a dispute with WEEI radio host Glenn Ordway, and a response to the question of whether or not Valentine had checked out late in the season:

“What an embarrassing thing to say. You know if I was there, I’d punch you in the mouth. Ha, ha. How does that sound? Does that sound like I checked out? That’s something that a comic strip person would write.”

It should be interesting to see if any more controversy is stirred with his new gig on the airways. At least he hasn’t found his way back into a big league clubhouse yet.
