Connelly’s Top Ten: Patriots Not Playing Sunday

1. Super Bowl:

* Really don’t care – no win situation. I guess pulling for 49ers so Lewis doesn’t get another ring
* Squares must be responsible for at least 30% of those watching a meaningless game (except to two cities)
* Randy Moss says he’s the best wide receiver ever – he is certainly in the top 2
* New drinking game – every time a Harbaugh complains to a ref – slug. Every time he throws his head phones pound the whole beer
* No halftime show will beat U2’s

2. Today’s Celtics trade:

I say they trade Jeff Green for Jeremy Lin ($5mm) and travel-adverse rookie Royce White under the premise that White plays 42 home games and takes the train to the following away towns:

To New York……….215 miles
To Brooklyn………..217 miles
To Philly…………….309 miles
To Washington…….441 miles
To Toronto………….549 miles

3. Patriots Playoff Offense:

Points scored by the Patriots in the second half of their playoff losses:

Vs. Baltimore – 0
Vs. Giants – 7
Vs. Jets 18
Vs. Ravens – 7
Vs. Colts – 13
Vs. Denver -10

4. Ed Reed:

Lot of talk about the Patriots going after Ed Reed – he’s been invisible in the playoffs: 10 tackles / 2 passes deflected / 0 int age 34

5. NCAA Basketball leaders vs. all time numbers:

* Points per game: 25.2 Erick Green 25.2 Virginia Tech / Pete Maravich LSU 44.5 a game
* Assists per game: Michael Carter Williams 8.9 Syracuse / Avery Johnson Southern U. – 1988 – 13.30 a game
* Rebounds per game: OD Anosike 12.0 Siena / Charlie Slack Pacific – 25.6 a game

6. Just think – if…

* Tight End Dave Thomas doesn’t get called for offensive interference vs. Colts
* Asante Samuel holds on to the interception
* Tom Brady and Wes Welker connect last year
* If this year, Welker holds on to ball, Brady’s deflection drops, Talib doesn’t get hurt, Ridley doesn’t fumble

…….The Patriots have potentially SEVEN Super Bowl rings in twevle years

7. Amazing Stats:

Red Sox All Star MVP’s

1999 – Pedro
1986 – Roger
1970 – Yaz

8. Old School:

From May 1, 1978 to August 28, Bob Stanley was 11-0 with 8 saves (he would finish the season with 15.2 / 10 saves)

9. Just a Little Bit Outside:

Who is in a bigger slump: Tom Cruise or A Rod?

Last Ten Cruise – Jack Reacher / Rock of Ages / Mission Impossible / Knight and Day / Valkyrie / Tropic Thunder / Lions for Lambs/ Mission Impossible / War of the Worlds / Collateral
First Ten Cruise – Taps, Outsiders, Losing It, Risky Business, All the Right Moves, Legend, Top Gun, Color of Money, Cocktail, Rain Man

10. Randomocity:

* Kansas State extended their 73-year-old football coach for five more years – Bill Snyder money well spent
* Gran Torino worse than the Pacer
* Au Gratin potatoes the best of the potato family
* A Rod will turn out to be one of the most tragic sports figures in history of athletics
* Marathon runners down to ten weeks
* High school state tournaments starting soon – nothing better
* Bono slightly edges out Freddy Mercury as best lead singer
* We would be closer to the truth if we said all professionals are on the juice (or antler stuff) as opposed to saying some are
* I recommend Gronk keep a lower profile until he can stay on the field for two seasons in a row

  1. I understand why we would want Jeremy Lin. I don’t understand why the Rockets would want Jeff Green – he doesn’t do anything well.

Every year that goes by Tom Brady looks a little bit less like Joe Montana and Bart Starr and a little bit more like Peyton Manning.

REPLY – MPC – You are right weak offer from Celtics on my part – although he is playing better – my point was more to take a chace on White

  2. Actually, the Brady career arc (sadly) looks a bit like Tom Cruise, now that you mention it.

    REPLY – MPC – ughhh.

  3. Mick Jagger is by far the best lead singer ever. Bono and Mercury aren’t even in the same league

REPLY – MPC – Rolling Stones most over-rated band ever
