Connelly’s Top Ten: Bruins Thrive, Celtics Alive, Red Sox in Drive

1. Bruins:

* There is a direct relation between Lucic’s hits and effectiveness
* The spear on Seguin by Phaneuf demands retribution
* Boston 1-5 on power play that’s better than usual in the postseason
* Need to win two rounds for season to be success

2. Celtics:

* Why not to bet – Celtics scored 48 points combined in the TWO second halves in Game 1 and 2 / they scored 47 Wednesday
* Please cut Jordan Crawford today – punk
* Kevin Garnett’s postseason field goal attempts per playoff season with the Celtics: 16.8 / 13.1 / 14.1 / 16.0 / 10.0
* Doc pulled a KC Jones only going with seven players
* 17 for 17 from free throw line
* Could the discussion that the Celtics miss Rondo increase his trade value in offseason?
* If they win one round the season has been a success
* Is it me or did Spike Lee’s weight spike? The orange top was stolen from Big House Moore’s closet

3. Red Sox:

* I predicted 79 wins this year – to land there the Sox would have to go 59-75 the rest of the way
* The left side of the Red Sox infield is hitting .194 (32-165)
* Toronto back to 25,000 fans a night
* John Farrell is now 174-178 as a manager
* 3:22

4. Around professional sports

* Tito’s team is 12-13 – if they win 77 games or more it’s a success
* Coach of the Year right now is Joe Girardi
* Bayern and Dortmund in the Champions League finals in Europe – no team from Spain or England
* When do the Revolution start?
* The Fighting Henry’s of Liverpool is 14-9-12 and their best player bites defenders (10 game suspension)
* Penguins rolling without Crosby / Heat with out Wade

5. NASCAR:

NASCAR driver Rickie Stenhouse Jr. has earned $1,.452,887 despite the fact he has ZERO top ten finishes this year

6. Celtics History:

What John Y. Brown gave up for his targeted players to “save” the Celtics:

* Curtis Rowe – Paul Silas
* Bob McAdoo – Three first round picks (Bill Cartwright, Larry Demic, Sly Williams)
* Sidney Wicks – Purchased

7. Amazing Stat:

Only 16 active hitters (minimum of 3000 plate appearances) have career batting averages over .300 – top 3:

1. Pujols – .323
2. Mauer – .322
3. Ichiro – .321

8. Old School:

At age 40, Ty Cobb hit .357 and stole 16 bases

9. Just a Little Bit Outside:

Sports Illustrated had top movie quarterbacks of all time:

1. Reno Hightower (Kurt Russell) – The Best of Times
2. Flash Gordon (Sam Jones) – Flash Gordon
3. Paul Crewe (Burt Reynolds) – Longest Yard
4. David Greene (Brendan Frasier) – School Ties (underrated movie)
5. Johnny Utah (Keanu Reeves) – Point Break

10. Randomocity:

* John Grisham better than Tom Clancy
* Spring is here, trees in full bloom – Boston has never looked better!
* The audacity to come to this county on a student visa and do anything that is inappropriate – put those punks in the monster seats and give John Wasdin the ball on the mound
* Fudgsicle over-rated
* Call me naïve but the Jason Collins story would have been big 15 to 20 years ago – today the intolerant are a significant minority to have to hear about non-stop for a week was overkill by media
* I was at a game recently and a player was being heckled – when the player turned around and told the drunk he would jump the fence and kick his fat ass – the kid didn’t say another word the whole game (back to my idea for a TV reality show where an athlete gets to get in a cage match with a fan who thinks he’s tough)

  1. * Fudgsicle over-rated…maybe, but not when I was a kid!

  3. the red sox are proving many wrong… so far.

    leafs are in trouble considering the most effective line – bergeron’s – didn’t even score the other night. if bruins show up (and that’s, sadly, a big IF sometimes) each night, series is a sweep.

    LET’S GO CELTICS!

  4. Fudgies and creamsicles were the bomb when I was a kid. Now, give me a Hagen Daz bar with almonds.

    Interesting stat about the left side of the infield. Maybe it’s time for Bogarts and Almanzar from the minors, huh?

  5. The only reason I would say the Collins thing wasn’t overplayed is that so many gay teens are still harassed, often brutally. If those kids are encouraged by the positive messages and reaction, so much the better. You and I might think no big deal, but too many others sadly still disagree.
