Bruins Defeat Rangers 3-1, Play Penguins in Conference Finals

Bruins defeat rangers 3-1 in game 5

After a mistake-filled game four, the Bruins hoped to finally close out the series Saturday evening. Game five featured the much anticipated return of Dennis Seidenberg in place of Dougie Hamilton. The Bruins did not allow many mistakes in the game, with Tuukka Rask making 28 saves, including a pad stop on a breakaway attempt by Ryan Callahan in the third to send the Bruins to the Eastern Conference Finals with a 3-1 win over New York.

Boston fell behind early as a first period power play one-timer goal from Dan Girardi  put the Rangers on top 1-0. Going into the second, there was another appearance by the white-hot Torey Krug, scoring a power play goal early on. That was Krug’s fourth goal this postseason, continuing a superb performance by the rookie defense man. Following that goal was a score by Gregory Campbell on a pass from Danny Paille later on in the second. Campbell put the dagger in Rangers with an empty net goal with a minute left to go  in regulation. The Bruins won 3-1, defeating the Rangers at home in five games.

The Bruins advance to the Eastern Conference Finals to play the Pittsburgh Penguins. As if the story lines against the Rangers were not enough, there will be plenty of buzz around this match up in the next two weeks.

Game Notes

  • Dennis Seidenberg had two shots and three hits on his return to the ice, he did end up steamrolled at one point by Chris Krieder on the boards but he would be fine.
  • Once again Brad Richards was a healthy scratch after being benched by Tortorella in game four.
  • Jaromir Jagr continues to be shutdown, unable to finish on a shot attempt in the third, saved by Henrik Lundquvist.
