Boston Red Sox ace Clay Buchholz was officially placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a neck strain. According to Boston.com, the Red Sox made the decision after beating the Rays in the opener of a day-night double header.
Buchholz has been one of the hottest pitchers in baseball, going 9-0 with a MLB-best 1.71 ERA. The Red Sox will need other starters such as Jon Lester to step up their game during his absence.
During his last start on June 8 against the Angels, Buchholz made an early exit, the Red Sox were reluctant at first to place him on the DL, stating he was day to day. According to Boston Globe, the move will be retroactive to June 9. The Red Sox will fill the vacated spot on their 25-man roster with Triple- A catcher Ryan Lavarnway from Pawtucket.
Hopefully, this will be a quick stint on the DL for Buchholz and he can come back to his dominating form sooner rather than later.
