Connelly’s Top Ten: No More Florida Players Welcome, Massachusetts Movies

1. Red Sox:

* John Farrell – Coach of the Year at All Star break
* Matt Thornton, throwing a freaking strike please
* Brock Holt 8 RBI in 9 games
* Mr. Colon, we found this syringe in your size 48 pants that you dropped off to have the spaghetti sauce stains cleaned
* Iglesias 7 for his last 34
* Uerhara is on pace for 73 games – see below for most appearances for Red Sox in season

2. Patriots:

* Congratulations to the Patriots, who have now gone 4 days without a player arrested
* Robert Kraft should demand that every player report to Foxboro in 24 hours (tell Dennard not to bother) and read them the riot act – these punks are not representative of our community
* Career catches by tight ends available to play on opening day: Hoomanawanui – 25 / Daniel Fells – 92 / Jake Ballard – 38 / Brandon Ford – 0/ Zach Sudfeld – 0 (worst in the NFL)
* Starting wide receivers right now: Amendola, Edelman, Jenkins (worst in the NFL)
* Poor Tom Brady
* I know this has been mentioned before, but Hernandez, Cunningham and Spikes all from University of Florida are druggies and been disciplined for their lack of discipline
* There were 32 arrests of Urban Meyer players that played for him at Florida

3. Lincecum:

I have two words to say to the Giants after Tim Lincecum’s 148 pitch games – “Johan Santana”

* Santana, after throwing a no-hitter on June 1st of 2012, which was 134 pitches – he has made 10 starts and was 3-6 with an ERA of over TEN!

4. Pierce:

Has any Boston “superstar” left with less fanfare than Paul Pierce? There was more outcry when Danny Ainge was traded

5. NBA:

Does it make sense for the NBA to have its rookie league in Las Vegas and then lecture them in the Rookie orientation on gambling?

6. Most Appearances by a Red Sox pitcher:

1. Mike Timlin – 81 – 2005
2. Greg Harris – 80 – 1993
3. Dick Radatz – 79 – 1964
4. Mike Timlin – 76 – 2004
5. Heathcliff Slocumb –75- 1996

7. Amazing Stat:

You know I’m no Clemens fan, but how about his six year stretch from 1987 to 1992 and then the three years after:

* 1987-1992 – 71 complete games / 31 shutouts
* 1993-1995 – 5 complete games / 2 shutouts

8. Old School:

In four years with the Patriots, Harold Jackson caught 156 balls / 18 touchdowns (17 from Grogan / 1 from Cavanaugh) / averaged 20.3 a reception

9. Just a Little Bit Outside:

Top ten movies filmed in Massachusetts-

1. Good Will Hunting
2. Jaws
3. Glory
4. The Verdict
5. Mystic River
6. Departed
6. Friends of Eddie Coyle
7. Social Network
8. Malice
9. The Town
10. School Ties

Honorable Mention: The Firm, The Proposal, The Cider House Rules, Summer Catch (except he walked off the mound with a no-hitter), Ted, Love Story, Coma

10. Randomocity:

* Whats wrong with society #6,542: LSU’s leading running back, Jeremy Hill, who is on probation for rape (relations with 14-year-old girl when he was 18), was arrested while on probation for sucker-punching a guy from behind and knocking him out – he was giving a $350 fine. Put him in with Hernandez and let them deal with each other.
* Fifteen runners in the running of the bulls have died since its origin (see the picture of Rex Ryan “peeing his pants”)
* Revolution have been absolutely devilish this season – record 6-6-6
* Hats off to Dedham, who has done a nice job with their town center
* Saw Way Way Back on Saturday – great Marshfield scenes if you ever go down there
* All that money for a goalie? I would have let Rask go – pick up a journey man who can throw up a 2.90 GAA until Subban is ready and then go get the best scorer in the league that was available
* Was there a more infantile movie than Grown Ups and now they are doing a sequel?

  1. Great name “Brock Holt” could be a lead in Boogie Nights 2 replacing Dirk Diggler

    REPLY – MPC – Sounds like a bouncer in Swayze movie Road House

  2. Completely agree with #2, having Kraft bring the whole team in – they should all start community service immediately and have curfews. It’s more clear now why Tim Tebow was brought in. And get a chaperone for Gronk

    REPLY – MPC -I could see Gronk hurting himself sneaking out the window

  3. Agree but Farrell but Tito is doing a solid job with the Tribe.

    Thornton at this stage is a lefty specialist, he shouldn’t be facing righties.

    It sounds like Aceves’ days are coming to a close in Boston. Solid 2011 but a headache since then.

    Timlin was a rock for a couple of years in Boston. Had a long career coming out of the bullpen.

    Belichick will have a “us” against the world mentality.

    Patriots’ issues over the years: lack of a pass rush, 3rd down defense, and protecting Brady. Brady won Super Bowls with no stars at wide receiver.

    REPLY – MPC – Troy Brown, David Patten and David Givens is better than this group / Timlin great Theo pick up along with Ortiz, Millar, Mueller

  4. Agree about Farrell (should have said). Not enough coffee.

  5. Fever Pitch didn’t even get an honorable mention? Please explain. Jimmy Fallon never more charming; Fenway Park never more beautiful; the passion of Boston for baseball and the euphoria of winning never more convincingly presented.

    REPLY – MPC – Absolutely not because they sold out the celebration of the World Series by filming a movie during it
