Connelly’s Top Ten: Are You Ready For Some Football!

1. Patriots predictions:

· Brady TD passes – 42
· Ridley Yards – 1151
· Team Sacks – 23
· Over and Under Passing defense – 24th in the league
* Belichick replay requests 6-10
· Receptions per receiver – Amendola 82 / Thompkins 51 / Boyce 38 / Dobson 32
· Games Gronk plays – 9
· Record 12-4 (11 win season would be a let down – we are spoiled)

2. Red Sox:

* Not his best but another decent start for Peavy
· Series wins over Dodgers, Detroit, Baltimore and Chicago in the midst of the pennant race
* Is Shane Victorino the best free agent signing? Is Shane Victorino the Red Sox MVP?
* Matt Thornton isn’t working out / Tazawa blown save #8
* Sox management made a mistake bringing up Jackie Bradley at beginning of season but their handling of Will Middlebrooks by promoting two other players instead of him was brilliant

3. Around the NFL in predictions:

* Welker 2 TD

· Jets wins – 6
· Second place in division – Dolphins with 10 wins
· Which of these QB’s will suffer a season ending injury? – Rodgers, Brees, Brady, Manning
· AFC darkhorse – Bengals
· Lock this week – I like Pittsburgh giving 6 to Tennessee / I like Jets getting 2.5 from Tampa / I like Cincy get 3 from Chicago/ I like Carolina getting 3.5 from Seattle
· Colts go backwards this year
· 15 yard flags between Suh and Fairly

4. Papelbon vs. Koji:

CLOSER…………ERA……..SAVES……INN……….K TO BB… WHIP……..SALARY

* Koji………………1.14……………18…………..63.1……………87/9……..0.610……….$4.2mm

* Papelbon…….2.35…………..24…………..53.2………….50/9……..1.025……….$13mm

5. 2,000 Hits:

David Ortiz got his 2,000 hit this week – surprisingly these guys have more hits than Ortiz: Gary Matthews, Reggie Smith, Mark Grudzielanek, Orlando Cabrera, Gary Templeton, Graig Nettles, Dave Concepcion,

6. Nixon/Drew:

Dale Arnold of WEEI was talking about JD Drew and how good he was and how overrated Trot Nixon was in comparison – how did they do in their last five years with Red Sox:

PLAYER….AVG Game…..AB / Hits / AVG / RBI…..HR……Salary

Drew……………..121…………2012 / 532 / .265 /286 / 80 / $70mm

Nixon……………114…………1911 / 532 / .278 /323 / 79 / $26mm

7. This week’s College Football:

· Best games – Washington State at USC – second year with Mike Leach’s offense for Cougars I like the dog to cover getting 21
· Upset picks – San Diego State to cover over Ohio State getting 28 / Look out Tennessee giving 13.5 to Western Kentucky
· Lock Picks Navy vs. Indiana over 65
· Big games of the week – Georgia vs. South Carolina – I think South Carolina gets it done which puts Mark Richt on the hot seat again / Notre Dame vs. Michigan – even though ND has lost their backfield I think the upgrade in athleticism is enough

8. Old School:

In honor of the Red Sox greatest midseason pitcher pick up Jake Peavy – lets look back at Doyle Alexander in 1987

* Traded from Atlanta for John Smoltz

* Was 9-0 in 11 starts / 3 shutouts

* 1.53 ERA

9. Just a Little Bit Outside:

The most Mustangs produced by Ford was in 1966 – 607,588 — by 1971, they were under 150,000

10. Randomocity:

* Lamar Odom joins A Rod on the pathetic team

* Classic that Sports Science did a episode on the Butt Fumble

* Two good notes on Barstool Sports yesterday – Gregory Campbell back before Buchholz / Guinness commercial of wheelchair basketball http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xwndLOKQTDs

  1. are you predicting 2 TDs for welker?

    how can you predict 42 for brady but gronk only plays 9 games? i love brady, but he doesn’t sniff 30 if gronk only plays 9 games.

    i set the o/u for patriots team sacks at 33.5 and go with the over. chandler jones!

    REPLY – MPC – The Welker thing should went down below – just noting that he had 2 TD last night / Brady td was aggressive / hope Chandler Jones doesn’t hit the wall again

  2. Dolphins maybe 8 wins, but little chance they win 10 games. Running game issues all season long.

    Colts make the playoffs, not going backwards. They’ll battle Houston for the division. I like the Bengals to win their division.

    Koji could be MVP of this team. Bullpen before Koji concerns me. Thornton is a lefty specialist at this stage of his career.

    I’ll take Ga. between the hedges. Gurley is a beast.

    Bridgewater wins the Heisman and he’ll be the number one pick.

    Bet the house on the Colts. Raiders are brutal.

    REPLY – MPC – Gurley is like a man playing boys / Bridgewater’s knee ok from last year – I like him / Koji amazing / Is Cherrington executive of the year
