Connelly’s Top Ten: Red Sox Rolling, Patriots Getting Better?

1. Red Sox:

* Bogaerts and Inglesias hit .303 over 267 at bats / Drew is hitting .247 over 405 at bats
* On pace to win 99 games
* Red Sox now 4-1 odds to win the World Series behind the Dodgers
* Red Sox have their starters primed and closer lights out – hmmm
* Buchholz 11-0 over 15 starts – pro-rate that over 35 starts equals 26 wins
* Daniel Nava is making himself into a millionaire – .306 average

2. Around the NFL:

* Hate no Sunday game for the Patriots
* 2-0 Andy Reid, Dolphins, Da bears
* 0-2 Redskins, Adrian Peterson, Cam Newton, Giants
* No team has ever played a Super Bowl in their home stadium – sorry Giants and Jets

3. Around the MLB:

* Brandon Moss has 27 home runs
* Dodgers peak too early? 3-8 over last 11
* Right now Cleveland, Tampa and Texas all with 81 wins

4. College Football:

* Navy could go into Notre Dame 7-0 11/2/13 – real QB and speed
* Did you see the end of the Wisconsin game – Badger quarterback tried to down the ball on the ten yard line to set up a winning field goal by placing the ball on the ground costing them the game
* Boston College said Lane Kiffin’s job
* Johnny Manziel is going to be a good pro – he can throw the ball and be a pocket QB

5. Any baseball team with less than 30 road wins should lose luxury hotel status:

* White Sox 25-51
* Astros 27-47
* Marlins 24-50
* Padres 27-47
* Rockies 27-51

6. Mannings:

Peyton and Eli Manning have had 34 games of 350 yards passing or more and have a combined regular season record of 244-130 while throwing 658 TD to 356 Interceptions – how about Archie:

* 125 TD to 173 INT
* Career Record 37-100-3
* Games over 350 yards – 2

7. Amazing Stats:

Round that players from the Patriots offense was drafted in:

1st – 2
2nd – 4
3rd – 2
4th – 3
5th – 3
6th – 2
7th – 1
Undrafted – 12

8. Old School:

Jim Rice in the first half of 1978:

* 11 doubles / 13 triples / 23 home runs

9. Just a Little Bit Outside:

Following the Gulf War, Kuwaitis celebrated by firing guns up in the air – 20 people were killed by the falling bullets

10. Randomocity:

* How is there not a demand for Senator Ed Markey’s impeachment for his gutless non-vote on Syria – isn’t that why he was chosen to represent and be strong enough to be a man of conviction?
* One of my best investments – EZ Pass for the Mass Turnpike
* Not for nothing but it irritates me that John Lackey can’t tip his hat to a standing ovation
* I think an underrated Bruce album – The Rising which I listened to on 9/11 because it’s a good album and its significance
* Hats off to Pawtucket Red Sox for a great season – they were knocked out of finals by Durham over the weekend
* The title of last night’s episode of Donovan on Showtime was “Bucky F***** Dent”

  1. i really am rooting for manziel, but he doesn’t make great decisions. that 3rd down play was a horrendously lucky event for him.

    REPLY – MPC – He is not a great guy but a great player

  2. the 78 team was unbeleivable, ed markey should be impeached he is a coward, pawtucket with bogaerts, JBJ, and lavarnway would have won it all

    REPLY – MPC – 99 wins and no playoffs / I wouldn’t even cared if Markey voted different from me – have some conviction in life / I think Red Sox make a mistake not trying to win the minor league playoffs – I think there is value for organizational culture
