Connelly’s Top Ten: Ravens Hate Patriots (Especially Brady)

1. Patriots preview vs. Ravens:

* Patriots are 6-1 versus Ravens in regular season / 1-2 in playoffs
* The three games played in Baltimore, Patriots are 2-1: 46-38 / 27-24 / 30-31
* Since the first week, the Ravens have lost five games by a total of 17 points
* Flacco and Brady have thrown 1,104 passes this year – their back ups Tyrod Taylor and Ryan Mallett have thrown 1
* The two kickers this Sunday are 11-13 from 50 yards or more – absurd
* Suggs and Dumervil have combined for 18.5 sacks

2. Ovechkin:

Alex Ovechkin is on pace for 70 goals this season with his next goal being his 400th in 633 games (despite his scoring he is a MINUS 12 this year)

3. Joe Thornton:

What effort will do: Joe Thornton has played 532 games for the Bruins and tallied 454 points (0.85 points a game) / he has played 627 games for San Jose 700 points (1.12 a game)

4. Bruins after 35 games last five years:

2013 – 23-10-2
2012 – 23-8-4
2011 – 24-10-1
2010 – 20-11-4
2009 – 17-11-7

5. 1987 Celtics and Injuries:

The injured Patriots team pushing toward the playoffs reminds me of the 1987 Celtics who somehow made it to the finals despite multiple injuries. In the clincher in Eastern Finals against the Pistons on May 30th:

* Celtics won 117-114
* Bird 37 / Mchale 22 / DJ 18 / Ainge 18 / Parish 16
* Joe Dumars had 35 / Isiah 25
* Isiah fouled out
* At the end Mchale danced in Rodman’s face
* After the game Rodman said that Bird won three MVP’s because he was white / Isiah agreed, “Larry Bird is a very, very good player but if he was black he’d be just another guy.”
* Like only KC could do – all five starters for Celtics played over 40 minutes including Bird all 48
* Lost to the Lakers in six games

6. Shortstop’s with at least 25 errors and still won the gold glove:

1965 – Versalles – 39!!!!
1963 – Versalles – 30
1985 – Griffin – 30
1961 – Aparico – 30
1967 – Fergosi – 25

7. Amazing Stats:

Multiple year Pro Bowlers that left the Patriots with hard feelings:

* Mike Haynes
* Nick Buoniconti
* Richard Seymour
* Wes Welker
* Ty Law
* Lawyer Milloy
* Drew Bledsoe
* Leon Gray
* Brandon Merriweather
* Adam Viniatieri

****Others

* Larry Izzo
* Russ Francis
* Brian Holloway
* Houston Antwine
* Raymond Clayborn
* Marv Cook
* Curtis Martin

8. Old School:

Globe reports on Ted Williams and his last at bat:

* Played in front of 10,454 fans
* After home run, the crowd changed “We Want Ted” for four minutes but would not go out despite teammates urgings
* “I left them something to remember” – huh?
* Had clubhouse employee bring the home run hitting bat up to Mr. Yawkey

9. Just a Little Bit Outside:

From reader Gerry M. – in the summer of 1983, the following comedies were released:

June 10 – Trading Places
July 22 – Mr. Mom
July 29 – Vacation
August 5 – Risky Business
August 19 – Easy Money
August 26 – Strange Brew

10. Randomocity:

* 60 yard field goals aren’t good for the NFL – they need to bring the goal posts in – a field goal should be no more than a 75% success
* Traffic at an all time worst – in London they have a forbidden drive zone – that’s coming sooner than you think
* Want to feel old – David Robinson’s son is a wide receiver for Notre Dame / Russ Courtnall’s daughter won the NCAA soccer championship for UCLA / Ken Griffey’s son is a wide receiver for Arizona
* Be careful driving this weekend
