The Boston Celtics are reported to have worked out a trade that will send shooting guard Courtney Lee to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for point guard Jerryd Bayless.
Lee was seeing less than 17 minutes of court time per game this season but was shooting a productive .492 from the field and .442 from beyond the arc.
Bayless has seen a decrease in production this season under new coach Dave Joerger. The five-year veteran out of Arizona has averaged a steady 8 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists per game but is shooting at a rate of .375 from the field.
While Bayless has potential to contribute, the main gain from this deal for this Celtics is that they are getting rid of Lee’s which is worth a little over $11 million over the next two seasons.
Memphis, on the other hand, is looking to improve its perimeter shooting as they have only a couple of three-point threat on their current roster.
The deal is expected to be finalized on Monday.
