If you’re a New England Patriots fan like me, how could you not love Aqib Talib? He’s the best corner we’ve had in years, probably since the legendary Ty Law. After being maligned with off-the-field issues during his time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Bill Belichick vouches for him as a leader on not just the defense, but the entire team. He also wears his hats at the most incredible angle — for his self-introduction on Sunday Night Football, no less. And his name just has the perfect ring to it. “Aqib Talib.” It just doesn’t get much better than that.
Well, if you still needed convincing, or are looking for extra bonus reasons to like Talib, consider this quote in response to Talib’s former teammate Marquice Cole signing with the Denver Broncos:
“That’s my dog, man,” Talib said in the locker room Wednesday. “Good luck, Quice, man. Cash that check, baby. Pay those bills.”
Just when I thought I couldn’t like you anymore, Aqib!
For all the Patriots fans out there who somehow still consider Cole a traitor for finding employment and “cashing that check,” allow Talib to further dissuade you of your opinion:
“Quice can’t tell Peyton Manning nothing that Peyton Manning don’t already know about us, man.”
I’m pretty sure this is the largely unknown fifth Gospel: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Aqib.
