With the 2014 NFL Draft approaching, everyone is wondering what jersey Johnny Manziel will don. Will it be the Houston Texans with the #1 overall pick? The Jacksonville Jaguars?
How about the Boston Red Sox?
Johnny Football temporarily switched allegiances on Saturday when he visited the team’s facilities in Fort Myers, sporting a #2 Red Sox jersey with his last name (don’t worry, Xander, I think your number is safe).
Manziel came to Fort Myers for Friday’s casino charity event the Red Sox hold every year, then stayed to walk around JetBlue Park the next stay. He likely attended because of his connection to Red Sox ownership, who run Fenway Sports Management and have a marketing deal in place with Manziel’s agency, LRMR marketing.
I don’t really need to say this, but don’t get your hopes up, though, Patriots fans. Even though he’s texted with Tom Brady and Red Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski joked about Manziel taking over for Brady, that connection with John Henry and company probably won’t go much beyond token publicity appearances like this weekend.
