The New England Patriots wasted no time after Darrelle Revis was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Wednesday afternoon, swooping in to sign the former Jets cornerback to a one-year, $12 million contract.
CB Darrelle Revis and the New England Patriots have reached agreement on a one-year, $12 million deal, league sources told ESPN.

The move is a much needed reprieve from the free agent splashes coming out of Denver. The Broncos signed Aqib Talib away from the Patriots for six years, $57 million, then followed that by adding DeMarcus Ware to their pass rush for three years, $30 million.
Revis not only mitigates the loss of Talib, but arguably makes the Patriots better (at least next season). Here’s hoping all goes well and Revis enjoys his time in Foxborough enough to sign a long-term deal in 2015.
Now we just have to wait and see what else Bill Belihick has up his nonexistent sleeves in this AFC arms race.
