Jared Remy, son of former Red Sox second baseman and NESN color commentator Jerry Remy, has been accused of assault with a deadly weapon on another inmate, as both are awaiting trial in the Middlesex County jail.
He will be arraigned on this new charge on April 24, in Cambridge District Court.
Remy is detained for allegedly killing his girlfriend, Jen Martel.
Remy, 35, leaves in his wake a daughter, and the reputation of his father. Jerry Remy spent the remainder of the Red Sox World Championship season off the air due to his son’s actions. Despite much controversy, and dissent, this season Remy decided to return to the NESN booth with Don Orsillo for each Red Sox broadcast.
Jared Remy has suffered a number of run-ins with the law throughout his life. This jailhouse brawl, which took place on Thursday, is the latest in many displays of violence. The jail decided to move Remy to an isolated section of the jail while he continues to wait for his court dates.
