Connelly’s Top Ten: Bruins Never Quit

1. Bruins:

* I told you something stupid would happen with PK – although as Dan Shaughnessy said don’t paint Boston with that nonsense
* The way Larry Bird used to add something to his game every year in the offseason – Krejci should meet with Mike Bossy, Marcel Dionne, Mike Gartner, Dino Ciccarelli, Pat Verbeek and Lanny McDonald and figure out how to finish
* Krejci, the most talented player by far on the team, is at MINUS 2
* Brad Marchand 14 shots / 0 goals
* They are not going to win this without Seidenberg
* Seems like they are on a crash course with Blackhawks (I wish St. Louis knocked them out)
* Soderberg was getting more buzz than any Bruins – 0 postseason goals

2. Red Sox:

* Trade Lester today – his trade value is its highest
* David Ortiz isn’t talking much about being underpaid at $14mm for .241 average
* Sox on pace for 34-47 home record

3. NFL Draft:

* Offensive Players I would love to see (that could be there) – Brandin Cooks, Marquise Lee, JORDAN MATTHEWS, Bishop Sankey, Dri Archer, Lache Seastrunk

4. Pierzynski vs Salty:

* Salty – 6 HR / 11 RBI / .303 / Thrown out 15% of runners
* Pierzynski – 3 HR / 15 RBI / .291 / Thrown out 36% of runners

5. Bruce Hurst first three starts in May of 1986:

* May 5th vs. California: 9 innings – 0 runs / 5 K – 0 BB – win
* May 10th vs. Oakland: 10 innings – 2 runs / 11 K – 0 BB – win
* May 16th vs Texas: 9 innings – 3 runs / 14 K – 3 BB – loss

6. Red Sox payroll:

* Coming off the roster at end of year $62.5mm – Peavy $14.5mm / Lester $13mm / Pierzynski $8.2mm / Gomes $5mm / Uehara $4.5mm / Ross $3.1mm / Breslow, Capuano, Badenhop, Miller, Carp Herrara, Tanzawa, Sizemore $13.8mm
* Too bad they tied themselves up with the Ortiz deal of $16mm
* Trade Lester and Swihart to Minnesota for one of their hurt stars

7. Old School:

Pedro game strikeout totals in 1999:

10 – 5 times
11 – 3 times
12 – 2 times
13 – 1 time
14 – 2 times
15 – 4 times
16 – 1 time
17 – 1 time

8. Amazing Stats:

Josh Beckett is 7-22 since September 21, 2011 for over $50mm

9. Just a Little Bit Outside:

$1 billion-plus Movies (mojo.com) – adjusted for inflation:

1. Gone With the Wind – $1.608mm
2. Star Wars – $1.417mm
3. The Sound of Music – $1.133mm
4. ET – $1.129mm
5. Titanic – $1.078mm
6. The Ten Commandments – $1.042mm
7. Jaws – $1.019mm

10. Randomocity:

* Why not to bet – Houston Astros beat Felix Hernandez’s Mariners
* From ESPN – 43-year-old Teemu Selanne the third oldest to score a playoff goal behind Gordie Howe and Chris Chelios
* From ESPN – Lester joins Randy Johnson and Warren Spahn to strike out 15 and only give up one hit
* How come no one can score straight on like Neely and Lafleur used to – now its either a tip or deflection
* Carl Crawford is hitting .200
* Rain and 50’s next week ugh
* Kentucky Derby is on the Bucket List
* Does Planters have a monopoly on peanuts?

  1. krejci would a plus-7 if his linemates could finish some of the chances he’s created in 5-on-5 action this series. i think he def didn’t play well against DET (he was out there against datsyuk) but he’s been good in this series.

    i am also in disagreement about soderberg. was dynamite against DET and then had primary assist on pretty feed to paille on saturday. they shortened 3rd line time due to team being down in 3rd period.

    also… who would you trade for on minnesota? do they have stars?!? mauer? he sucks and is always hurt. lester is a horse.

    REPLY – MPC – Twins have two top ten prospects – one is hurt which is the best time to get them Belichick would say
