Connelly’s Top Ten: Weekend!

1. Cliff Notes:

* Seven summer weekends left – enjoy
* Tom Brady soon to take the field again – life is good
* No soccer, no College World Series, Red Sox stink – August 30th Ohio State – Navy!
* They should have a charity competition to see how many slap shots Bobby Schumatz could put on net from blue line

2. Red Sox second half schedule:

* They play in Jeter’s last game at home (surprised Major League Baseball didn’t have Jeter’s last game in Yankee Stadium)
* They play in Pittsburgh, which will be a fun match up with that outfield
* Why not move Lester, Peavy, Lackey, Napoli, Gomes, Ross

3. Baseball History: Hitters

From 1929 to 1933, Joe Sewell of the Yankees only struck 22 times in 2,838 plate appearances

4. Baseball History: Pitchers

In 1942 only ten pitchers threw for the Red Sox – in 2006 28 pitchers threw

5. Stuart Scott speech:

Great speech on ESPY’s about his fight with cancer – here is the list he did for my NBA list book

1. Michael Jordan
2. Bob McAdoo
3. Billy Cunningham
4. James Worthy
5. Sam Perkins
6. Bobby Jones
7. Antawn Jamison
8. Brad Daugherty
9. Vince Carter
10. Charlie Scott

6. Drew Family Update with Red Sox:

* Combined average – .252 (658-2,612)
* Combined pay by Red Sox $89mm

7. Amazing Stats:

Bill Russell was sick this week – great time to dive into a crazy stat of his:

* At age 33 he had his worst rebounding year when he averaged 18.6 rebounds a game (that was rebounds)

8. Old School:

In the 1963 and 1964 All Star game Russell combined for 45 rebounds

9. Just a Little Bit Outside:

I think Kirk Minihane has been excellent addition to local sports radio but it’s a matter of time before you get in trouble walking on the ledge with comments – (re: his comments about Erin Andrews, calling her a gutless bitch who should drop dead…)

10. Randomocity:

* Bad day in the world Thursday -
* Are you kidding me that baseball gets another day off (is that so people can attend the ESPY’s)
* John McInroe son arrested for drugs – tough to be a good parent and be a star at the same time
* I liked the Seattle Supersonics
* Cleveland throwing Wiggins in the Love deal – that’s done – Danny better go back to the chalkboard

  1. are we supposed to guess what the title of the list is for stu scott’s nba list? it’s some kind of UNC players list? is it “top players” or just “favorite players”?

if it is top players… where is hansborough?!?

the only things of note i know about minihane are his rant against andrews, and his rant / fight with gary tanguay last year on CSNE that went viral overnight. i turned off that show years ago and have never looked back. i don’t regret it.

reply-mpc – top ten tar heel players /

  2. Throw in Koji to get rid of now, anyone who is on a contract ending this year that we cant or wont resign, should be traded, even if for a bag of balls. This year is over!

UNC greatest, so many to add, like rasheed wallace and jerry stackhouse

Minihane is much better then Mitre perle, but if he was’t there no one would notice. Morning drive goes to EEI, mid day is a toss up depending on time of year, afternoon drive is 98.5, even though I think Felger is a DB, they do good radio, night time is “land of the lost” with Mikey and Adam Jones We are fortunate in Boston to have choice on sports talk radio, best place in country for it

REPLY – MPC – I leave toward Felger despite politics – yep Koji – get anything back if you like him sign him in winter

  3. If you get rid of Lester, who’s your #1 pitcher going forward? Bucholtz? No way!

REPLY – MPC – You might have to develop or use your prospects to get better contract pitcher ie. hamel
