Chris Capuano Goes to New York Yankees

Chris Capuano

Chris Capuano thought he saw his last Major League baseball diamond in 2014, but he was wrong. The New York Yankees announced Thursday afternoon that they will be acquiring the left-hander from the AAA minor league Rockies affiliate, the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, in exchange for cash.

He pitched three games for the Sky Sox, earning only one win. The Yankees are looking to diversify their portfolio of pitching options. They have only two left-handed pitchers, one of who was with the Red Sox last year, Matt Thornton.

Capuano did not meet the expectations the Red Sox had for him. When he left for Colorado on July 1st, he had a 4.55 ERA and 29 strikeouts over 31 2/3rd’s innings. This is less than one strikeout per inning he played.

New York paid outright for 35-year-old, who began his career in 2003 with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Yes, the Yankees do have money, but is it necessary to add insult to injury and spend it on a former Red Sox player born and bred in Massachusetts?

I guess so. They just can’t help themselves.

Let’s hope the third time, or team, is the charm for Chris Capuano.
