Connelly’s Top Ten: Red Sox vs. Paint Drying

1. Cliff Notes:

* Red Sox playing out string

* Patriots countdown continues – they need to trade a QB

* English Premier League rolling

* Ice Bucket challenge keeps cruising

* Bowling under-rated

2. Red Sox:

* Game Times vs Houston: 3:19 / 3:46 / 3:50 / 3:11

* Nava since being recalled – 54-163 (.331)

* Pedroia since Shaughnessy article saying he was on the back nine 54-166 (.325)

* Boston has only stolen 38 bases this year and been caught 20

3. Red Sox Home Runs:

Sox are on pace to hit 122 home runs this year compared to my favorite home run hitting Red Sox team – 1977 who hit 213:

* Rice……39

* Scott ….33

* Hobson…30

* Yaz……….28

* Fisk………26

* Lynn…….18

* Carbo…..15

* Evans…..14

4. Managers with at least 2,000 games managed with a sub .500 record:

* Bucky Harris………..2,158-2,219 (.493)

* Gene Mauch……….1,902-2,037 (.483)

* Jimmy Dykes……….1,406-1541 (.477)

* Chuck Tanner………1,352-1,381 (.495)

* Bill Rigney……………1,239-1,321 (.484)

* Lou Boudreau……….1,162-1,224 (.487)

* John McNamara……1,160-1,233 (.485)

* Tom Kelley……………1,140-1,244 (.478)

* Art Howe………………1,129-1,137 (.498)

* Frank Robinson……..1,065-1,176 (.475)

* Jim Fregosi……………1,028-1,094 (.484)

* Phil Garner……………985-1,054 (.483)

5. Since suspicious trade:

David Price for Drew Smyly trade:

* Price – 3 starts / 1-0 / 3.18 ERA / 23 K to BB

* Smyly – 3 starts / 1-1 / 2.14 ERA / 19 K to 6 BB

6. Great vs. Great – Jordan vs. Bird:

4/20/86 in Celtic 135-131 win

* Jordan – 63 points / 5 rebounds / 6 assists

* Bird – 36 points / 12 rebounds / 8 assists

7. Amazing Stat:

Eight year old Jonathan Curin caught a 438-pound marlin in 1991

8. Old School – In the 1969-1970 season Hank Finkel was brought into replace Bill Russell:

1969-1970 Finkel – 9.7 points / 7.7 rebounds

1968 – 1969 Russell – 9.9 points / 19.3 rebounds

9. Just a Little Bit Outside:

Saturday’s Red Sox vs. Houston game went 8.5 innings and took an insane 3:50 – what else can you do in that time:

* Drive Boston to Camden Maine – 3:43

* Fly Boston to Dallas – 3:50

* Lawrence of Arabia – 3:36

* Ed Whitlock Marathon – 3:48 (at age 82)

* Two hip replacement surgeries – 3:00

* To cook an unstuffed 22 pound turkey – 3:45 (hmm stuffing)

10. Randomocity:

* Was Allen Craig hurt before he got to Fenway

* Watched the Butler – are you kidding me that casting gave the role of Richard Nixon to John Cusack

* Speaking of John Cusack – in Say Anything did the plot have to include the father stealing money – seemed like a strange twist

* Reading yet another puff piece on Red Sox ownership you wonder if Nick Cafardo can even edit what Fenway sends over to him

* Speaking of Cafardo he had a stat that read that Verlander is 23-23 since turned 30

* Update on those doing the Ice Bucket Challenge (still no Obama!) – Bill Gates, Zac Brown Band, PK Subban was legit, best is Paul Bissonnette of Colorado, Oprah, Taylor Swift, Steven Spielberg, Eddie Vedder, Lebron

  2. The father stealing was central to the plot. She told him everything, and he lied to her for years…she then realized that the father was full of s&%t when he was hating on Lloyd.

    I liked the 2003 Sox team for pure power. They may have all been on roids, but that 77 team was drowing in cocaine.

    REPLY – MPC – Was Coke that big back then though maybe five years later? I still think you could have had a protective father who is against this low life dating his daughter and that dynamic
