Reviewing NESN’s Jenny Dell (So Far)

The 2012 season is about a month old and already two things are very clear: I miss last year’s bullpen and last year’s “sideline” reporter. Sorry folks, but Jenny Dell is not really doing it for me. I know, I know, the women reading this are calling me a superficial pig and the fellas reading this […]

Jenny Dell Replacing Heidi Watney as NESN Red Sox Reporter

Goodbye Heidi. It was nice knowing you. Everyone, say hello to Jenny Dell! Dell, a UMass graduate, will become NESN’s new Red Sox in-game reporter, according to the Boston Globe’s Chad Finn. She replaces Heidi Watney, who left at the end of last year to become a reporter for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Heidi Watney Breaks Collarbone Playing Ultimate Frisbee

It seems Heidi Watney’s transition from the Red Sox and NESN to the Lakers and Time Warner has been anything but painless. Both the Boston Globe and CBS Boston reported Monday that Watney broke her collarbone playing Ultimate Frisbee in what she tweeted was a “full-speed collision.” We here at Sports of Boston send our […]

Sports Media Musings: Felger Relents, Sticks & Stones Debut, Links, Red Sox Thoughts

Putting Out the Fire Michael Felger called his implication of Heidi Watney into the Red Sox mess “regrettable.” I thought it was wrong for Felger to talk about the alleged Watney-Varitek affair, and wrote as much yesterday. I understood his larger point: If the Red Sox are going to air out Terry Francona’s dirty laundry, […]

Sports Media Musings: Watney vs. Felger vs. Haggerty

There are days when covering the local media is rather tedious. After all, there are only so many CHB columns, ESPN slip-ups, Grantland opinions, ‘radio war’ coverage, among other incidents to write about. Then there are days like Oct. 12, 2011. Before we get to yesterday’s sh*! show, I need to say how much I […]

Sports Media Musings: NESN Loses McCarthy & Tappen, CSNNE Thriving

NESN Searching for Answers, CSNNE Finding More In somewhat of a shocking move, Jade McCarthy is leaving NESN. This comes only days after Kathryn Tappen announced she was leaving for the NHL Network on the Toucher & Rich show (a move this guy told you about months ago — terrible kept secret). And rumors continue to percolate about Heidi […]

Sports Media Musings: Shaughnessy’s Column, Twitter Nonsense, Watney Leaving?, ESPN Book Movie?

Oh Danny-boy I have never been one to kill a columnist. No matter how zany their take is, I’ll really let a writer reach before calling them a hack. Mainly because as a columnist you are asked to provoke thought and debate on the reg – and that is easier said then done. I give […]

Video: Shawn Thornton, Heidi Watney, Bobby Orr In Dropkick Murphys Music Video

When you say music and Boston, other than thinking about the band Boston, you must think about the Dropkick Murphy’s. In their latest jam called “Going Out In Style,” the music video features Bruins legend and SoB Hall of Famer Bobby Orr and enforcer Shawn Thornton, as well as cameo appearances by Kevin Youkilis and […]

My Boston Sports Wish List for the Next Decade

There is never anything wrong with looking back. But after a while, you just get tired of it. Over the last few weeks, we have all been inundated with year-end and decade-end reviews, “Best of” lists, and whatever else writers and newscasters like to throw at you to fill time in December. It’s all well […]
