The NCAA College Hockey Tournament field was announced Sunday morning and, to no surprise, BU was dubbed the overall #1 seed. The Terriers are coming off a 1-0 victory over UMass-Lowell to win the Hockey East Tournament, won the conference regular season title by a single point over Northeastern on the season’s final day, and claimed victory in the Beanpot tournament. The trifecta propelled Boston College to the National Championship last season and BU hopes to repeat the feat.
BU will headline the Northeast Region at Manchester, NH and will face Ohio State on Saturday. The other regional semi with pit North Dakota and third seed New Hampshire. Northeastern will be the two seed in the Midwest Region in Grand Rapids, MI and draws Cornell on Saturday. The 1-4 pairing in their region is overall #2 and CCHA Champ Notre Dame against CHA Champ Bemidji State.
Vermont, a three seed, faces ECAC Champ Yale in the East Region at Bridgeport, CT on Friday. The winner faces the winner of the matchup of top seed Michigan (overall #4 seed) and AHA Champ Air Foce. The West Region features #1 seed Denver, third overall seed in the tournament, against Miami and WCHA Champ Minnesota-Duluth against Princeton in Minneapolis, MN in Friday games.
The Northeast Regional winner faces the East Regional victor while the champions of the Midwest Region and West Region will comprise the other semi in the Frozen Four on Thursday, April 9 in Washington, D. C. The Championship Game is Sunday, April 11.
