Dice-K Placed on 15-Day DL

Another day, another Red Sox player goes down as Daisuke Matsuzaka has been placed on the 15-day DL because of shoulder fatigue.

Dice-K lasted just one inning last night in giving up five earned runs against the A’s. It was the righty’s second poor start of the season and Terry Francona has indicated he hasn’t felt 100% so far. Matsuzaka pitched for Japan in the World Baseball Classic so many people are blaming his poor start and fatigue on the tournament. The Red Sox have called up Hunter Jones from AAA.

My Take: It’s silly to spend time trying to pass around blame. The bottom line is that Dice-K obviously isn’t pitching up to his ability and should take the time he needs to get it all together. It may seem dire right now with the Sox at 2-6 and Josh Beckett suspended and John Smoltz not ready, but the baseball season is a marathon and Dice-K will be needed at 100% for the Sox to make a deep run in the playoffs.
