Fantasy Football Report: Week 10

Dwayne Bowe

All week long I was told that Ladell Betts was questionable for Sunday’s game with an ankle injury, and even if he did play, he would be in a committee. So, I benched him. Instead, he rushed for 114 yds and a TD. If I had played him, I would have won my matchup. Oh, there is no point here, I just felt like complaining.

Ankle Injuries Are the New Black

In what seems to be a huge fad sweeping the NFL, we haw several players leave games this past week with ankle injuries. Michael Turner, Ronnie Brown, and Kyle Orton all suffered ankle injuries and had to leave their respective games. It looks like Brown and Turner will miss week 11, while Orton has the best shot to play.

Larry Johnson Signs with Bengals

It didn’t take long for Johnson to find a new (and better) home. Cincinnati signed Johnson to a deal and he may be seeing a lot of work very soon as RB Cedric Benson is questionable for this week’s game. Benson left Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh with a “sore abductor muscle”. With the newly signed Johnson, the Bengals have no need to rush Benson back from injury.

Dwayne Bowe Suspended

Chiefs WR Dwayne Bowe has been suspended for four games for violating the NFL’ performance-enhancing drugs policy. If you know me, then you know that I have no sympathy for Bowe and what he did. He should be kicked out of the game for this crap!

Week 10 Top Performers

Donovan McNabb (QB), Philadelphia Eagles

McNabb was hands down the best QB last week when he threw for a league-high 450 yds with 2 TD.

Week 11 Outlook

McNabb faces a suspect Bears’ defense this week. Chicago’s defense isn’t what it used to be. They have lost four of their last five games, giving up an average of 24.6 points per game. McNabb has thrown six TD’s in his last three games with at least 220 pass yds in each contest.

Chris Johnson (RB), Tennessee Titans

Johnson continues to steamroll opposing defenses as he racked up 132 rush yds and 100 receiving yds with 2 TD’s.

Week 11 Outlook

There is no better RB at this time than Johnson. He has rushed for 120+ yds in four straight games and has six TD’s in his last three games. You might be reluctant about his matchup against Houston. The Texans haven’t allowed a team to rush for 100 yds since week 3. But hey, it is Chris Johnson, so who cares?

Randy Moss (WR), New England Patriots

Moss had his best game of the season with 179 yds and 2 TD. It was his fifth 100-yd game of the year.

Week 11 Outlook

The last time the Patriots faced the Jets, Moss turned in his worst game of the season with 24 receiving yds. The Jets do have the 3rd best pass defense in football, but they have also lost five of their last six games.

Kellen Winslow (TE), Tampa Bay Buccaneers

He didn’t score a TD like some other tight ends, but he was the only one to have a 100-yd day as he caught seven passes for 102 yds.

Week 11 Outlook

Tampa Bay will probably be losing again this week against the undefeated Saints. The Bucs have the 4th worst total defense in football, so they will be playing from behind and throwing it to play some catchup. Winslow has been the clear favorite target of rookie QB Josh Freeman and the Saints just let Marc Bulger throw for 298 yds and 2 TD on Sunday.

Connor Barth (K), Tampa Bay Buccaneers

First off, his name is awesome. It is no “Tim Biakabatuka”, but I still love saying “Barth”. Anyway, Barth is the 3rd kicker for the Bucs this season and he ended up going 3/3 on field goals against Miami. All of his field goals were 50+ yds.

Week 11 Outlook

Hey, the Bucs will stall against New Orleans at times and Barth clearly has incredible and accurate leg strength.

Baltimore Ravens Defense/Special Teams

As expected, the Ravens’ defense dominated the Browns on Monday night. Baltimore allowed no points while getting four sacks, two interceptions, and a touchdown.

Week 11 Outlook

The Ravens will not be a good play this week as they will have their hands full against Peyton Manning and the Colts passing attack. It is best to find a better option elsewhere.

Week 10 Duds

Jay Cutler (QB), Chicago Bears

I guess Cutler doesn’t like Thursday night games as he threw five interceptions and no scores against the 49ers.

Week 11 Outlook

Well, it can only get better from here. Although the Eagles allow only 206 pass yds per game, they are in the bottom half of the NFL with 14 passing TD’s allowed this season. Cutler himself is much better at home than on the road as he is 3-1 on his own turf with 7 TD and 2 INT.

Pierre Thomas (RB), New Orleans Saints

Thomas couldn’t find a hole, even against the Rams. He ended up with just 37 yds and no scores.

Week 11 Outlook

Pierre should have a better game against Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers have the 2nd worst rush defense in football and they have given up 170+ rushing yds in each of the past two games.

Greg Jennings (WR), Green Bay Packers

Jennings continued to struggle against Dallas as he caught four passes for 45 yds and no touchdowns.

Week 11 Outlook

After back-to-back 100-yd games to start the season, Jennings has failed to reach that mark since. His next game against the 49ers may seem promising since San Francisco has given up 300+ passing yds in two of their last three games, but Jennings has failed week after week to put up good numbers against some of the NFL’s worst defenses. Don’t play him until he puts up dependable numbers.

Dallas Clark (TE), Indianapolis Colts

Clark was kept in check for most of the game against New England as the Patriots held him to 65 yds and no scores.

Week 11 Outlook

Clark leads all tight ends in targets (78), receptions (64), and yds (768), so don’t let one bad game get you down. Even against a decent Baltimore defense, Clark is a must-play.

Steven Hauschka (K), Baltimore Ravens

Hauschka missed a field goal and an extra point on Monday night. It was the second straight week with a missed field goal.

Week 11 Outlook

No outlook for Hauschka as that missed field goal was the last straw for Baltimore. He was cut from the team Tuesday morning and currently has no home.

Pittsburgh Defense/Special Teams

The Steelers didn’t set the world on fire as they gave up 18 points with just two sacks in a loss to the Bengals.

Week 11 Outlook

The Steelers may have the best defense in Week 11 as they face the lowly Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs have the 3rd worst total offense in football and Chiefs’ QB’s have been sacked 37 times this season.

Unexpected Stars

Beanie Wells (RB), Arizona Cardinals

The rookie turned in his best performance this season as he had 117 total yds and two TD’s.

Week 11 Outlook

Wells is averaging 5.5 ypc over his last three games and he has the chance for another good game against the Rams. St. Louis gives up over 140 rush yds per week, including 150+ rush yds in three of their last four games.

Justin Forsett (RB), Seattle Seahawks

Julius Jones left the game with a bruised lung and Forsett ended up having a great game with 149 total yds and a TD.

Week 11 Outlook

It looks like Jones may miss Sunday’s game against Minnesota, which means Forsett will get all the carries. However, the Vikings are just one of seven teams in the NFL that don’t allow 100 yds rushing per game, and they have yet to allow a single running back have a 100-yd game this season.

Jamaal Charles (RB), Kansas City Chiefs

Charles finally came through for us and he rushed for 103 yds and a TD.

Week 11 Outlook

Don’t expect that to happen this week against the Steelers and their #1 ranked rush defense that allows just 69.7 rush yds per game.

Marc Bulger (QB), St. Louis Rams

Bulger took advantage of a struggling Saints secondary and threw for a season-high 298 yds and 2 TD.

Week 11 Outlook

I wouldn’t necessarily say that I recommend Bulger next week, but he has the right matchup against Arizona. The Cardinals have the 3rd worst pass defense in football and they have allowed 300+ pass yds in each of the past two games.

Ladell Betts (RB), Washington Redskins

As I mentioned at the very, very beginning of this, Betts ended up playing, getting most of the carries, and rushing for 114 yds and a TD.

Week 11 Outlook

Betts will start again if Portis isn’t over his concussion (I doubt the will be). However, you shouldn’t play him against Dallas. The Cowboys have not allowed a 100-yd rusher all season long and they have given up just four rushing TD’s this year.

Sports of Boston Football League

  • You already read that I lost because of my failure to play Ladell Betts. I lost 92.90-78.08, so Betts’ 18 points would have won me the matchup against SoB’s Brian.
  • SoB’s Chris charges into first place after a 139.10-93.72 victory. If he ever lost Chris Johnson, his team would be screwed.
  • Recent pickups include: Chris Chambers, Justin Fargas, Devery Henderson, Dustin Keller, and Jason Snelling.
