Saturday night, before the big game against the Patriots, Jets players were sound asleep. Then, players were awoken to a fire alarm pulled at their team hotel. Was there a big fire? Was there a tragic situation at hand? Could the Patriots win Sunday’s game by default because there wouldn’t be any Jets left to play?
I’ll let Dustin Keller sum up his reaction after the fire alarm was pulled at around 1 a.m., via his Twitter account.
So much for a good nights sleep..the alarm just went off in our teams hotel hahaha grown men walking around the hallway in their draws haha
So I guess only kids walk around in their “draws”? Keller brings up a good point within his 140-character limit: the Jets players lost their chance at a good night’s sleep.
Why did the Jets lose their good night’s sleep? What set off the alarm? Was Bill Belichick responsible? Boston.com had the answer Sunday afternoon…
Far out of earshot of the club’s hotel block, maintenance workers were doing some sanding in a stairwell. As might be expected, dust kicked up and that, somehow, was enough to set off the alarm. And from there, an entire pro football team found itself out in the cold, waiting for fire trucks to show up before heading back to bed.
Jets safety Kerry Rhodes was a little less amused than Keller about the fire alarm (even if it was because of “sanding”), and expressed his frustrations via his own Twitter account:
you know we are playing new england when in the middle of the night when u r sleep somebody pulls a fire alarm to wake u up!! wow!!
Apparently Rhodes is onto something. The same thing happened to the Bills at their team hotel in Week 1. Notice a trend here? I knew it! I’ll call it Spygate Version 2, or would it be Hotelgate? I don’t know, but one thing’s for certain: somewhere, the figureheads at ESPN are smiling.
