Shaq chose Thursday to fulfill his promise and pose as a statue (or Shaqtue?) in Cambridge’s Harvard Square. He sent out a tweet to his 3,280,346 followers at around 1:14 p.m., letting them know it was time:
“On my way to Barbara square it’s statue time…
I mean on my way to harvard square lol dam I phone my fingers r to big statue time”
(Translation: ‘I mean on my way to Harvard Square. Lol damn iPhone, my fingers are too big. Statue time’)
He didn’t speak the whole time, and allowed fans to sit with him and pose for pictures. Some fan comments made him smile, however.
He quickly spoke to reporters on his way out and was whisked away at around 3 p.m.
Later on Twitter, Shaq thanked his fans:
Thank u all for being in harvard sq. Peace
We knew Shaq would be a lot of fun, but it’s refreshing to see someone so popular and famous willing to take the time out to connect with the fans. Only Shaq could pull something off so random and make it go so smoothly. Kudos to the Big Shamrock!
