Over the last month every imaginable trade rumor involving the Celtics’ ‘Big 4’ core has crept into the headlines. Was Danny Ainge really shopping Rajon Rondo? Was half the league interested in Ray Allen and his expiring contract? Did the Celtics really offer Paul Pierce to several teams?
While the deadline stands just hours away, here’s the latest (much less extreme) rumors.
- Chris Kaman: The Celtics have been pursuing Kaman for a couple weeks now. It’s being reported that New Orleans has dropped its requirements from multiple first-round picks to just one first-rounder or multiple second-rounders. The Celtics would have to send the contracts of Jermaine O’Neal, Chris Wilcox and Keyon Dooling to make this trade possible salary wise. Let’s file this as ‘unlikely’.
- J.J. Hickson: Hickson is the latest target of the Celtics according to Sam Amico of Fox Sports. Hickson is a strong, decently sized big who is buried behind DeMarcus Cousins and Jason Thompson on Sacramento’s depth chart. Hickson will likely cost the Celtics Dooling and possibly a second-round pick. For the price and simplicity of the Celtics getting bigger with this small deal, I’ll file this one under ‘likely’
- Sam Young: Much like Hickson, Young is buried at the small forward position on a very deep Memphis team. Young plays hard on defense and can hit open shots. This deal would be easy to pull off and would give the Celtics insurance behind Paul Pierce and Mickael Pietrus. File it under ‘possible’
- Ray Allen to the Clippers: The Clippers love Allen, the problem is they don’t have any picks or players that would help the Celtics. The proposed deal of Eric Bledsoe and Ryan Gomes should be of no interest to the Celtics. Allen to LA is ‘highly unlikely’.
