The Red Sox have placed designated hitter David Ortiz on the 15-day disabled list.
Ortiz is battling an Achilles’ heel injury that plagued him last year. He injured the heel while running around the bases during Adrian Gonzalez’s home run on Monday night.
Ortiz wore a walking boot to Tuesday’s game, and will be in one for the foreseeable future.
He’s expected to be out at least 10 days.
The Red Sox called up Mauro Gomez to take Ortiz’s place in the lineup. Gomez will likely fill in as the team’s DH in the time being.
Ortiz joins teammate Dustin Pedroia on the disabled list. Carl Crawford and Jacoby Ellsbury recently returned from the DL after a few months.
