Patriots Sign Visanthe Shiancoe, His Famous Third Leg

The Patriots reached agreement with free agent tight end Visanthe Shiancoe on a one-year deal on Tuesday.

Shiancoe joins a tight end crop that already includes Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez, Daniel Fells and the injured Jake Ballard (who likely won’t contribute until 2013).

But, with Gronk and Fells currently recovering from injuries, the 32-year-old Shiancoe could prove pivotal as a veteran tight end for the Patriots this season.

Shiancoe’s best year came in 2009, when he hauled in 56 catches for 566 yards and 11 touchdowns. From 2008-2010, he finished with more than 500 yards and had 20 touchdown catches over that span.

Shiancoe is probably best known for appearing nude during a FOX locker room cam in 2008 as team leaders and owners handed out the game ball. He was then lauded online for the enormity of his third leg.

(This is getting awkward.)

But yes, the Patriots made a nice move in picking up Shiancoe.
