In Facebook Post, Tim Thomas Supports Chick-fil-A Owner’s Gay Marriage Stance

Tim Thomas won’t play hockey this year, but he won’t go away either.

Here’s the latest gem on his Facebook page:

“I stand with Chick-fil-A.

Chick-fil-A is privately owned by the Cathy family. The company president, Dan Cathy, drew the wrath of gay rights advocates and supporters when he made recent statements that some have alleged are anti-gay.

Cathy told Baptist Press that the company was unapologetically in favor of traditional marriage.

“Guilty as charged,” he said. “We are very much supportive of the family – the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.”

In a separate interview on the Ken Coleman Show — Cathy suggested that the nation could face God’s wrath over the redefinition of marriage.

“I think we are inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at him and say, ‘We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage,’” Cathy said. “I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we would have the audacity to try to redefine what marriage is all about.””

Because I’m not one to share my political views in this or any public forum, I’m not going to specifically comment on Thomas’s stance, even Cathy’s statement seems so utterly ridiculous, mind-numbingly BACKWARD and so, so wrong on so many levels. OK, I just commented. Oops.

I will say, though, that Mayor Tom Menino’s decision to block Chick-fil-A from opening a store in Boston is kind of crazy too. As an American, you’re allowed to feel however you want to feel and speak freely. If Cathy is against same-sex marriage, then so be it. But, don’t ban a private enterprise from purchasing a private property in your city just because you disagree with the private enterprise’s owner on a hot-button issue.

  1. Well I don’t think that Mayor Menino actually “banned” Chick-fil-A – he doesn’t have the power to do that (I think). He just publicly stated that he disagrees with them. I just can’t wait for the Schilling/Thomas ticket for Gov./Lt. Gov. They’d probably make ticket expenses tax deductible!

  2. Yeah, he doesn’t have the power to ban, but he does have the power to make it difficult for them to open a store here (maybe through blocking permits?), at least I’d imagine so.

  3. I see nothing wrong with the fact he supports a Traditional Lifestyle…. It’s a preference that one is entitled to have. Why should his opinion be critically critiqued, while those professing the other lifestyle seem to be getting all the support.
I for one have no problem in supporting the traditional Lifestyle. It’s my right… as it is his.
